The Fashion Of Honking Unnecessarily In Indian Streets

A guard is checking traffic in Indian street: Photo: Reuters
Source: International Business Times:

A couple of years ago, a traffic police officer once gave a briefing to a group of students in the Karnataka state capital Bangalore. There was something he told the gathering that day which made complete sense to the students, although it was meant to be a joke: The shortest unit of 'time' ever measured is what occurs when a traffic light goes green in Indian streets and the first honking sound you hear.

North Korea's Kim Jung-un Had A Secret Daughter Outside His Marriage?

Kim Jong-un With Wife Ri Sol-ju. Photo from Reuters

North Korean leader Kim Jon-un appeared to be obsessed with missiles and nuclear warfare, as indicated by his country's saber rattling tactics in recent days to keep his "enemies" South Korea and the U.S. in check.
But the highly controversial missile-friendly Kim also seemed to have kept many details of his personal life a secret, perhaps in a bid to magnify his image at home that tends to be very important in a reclusive nation like North Korea.

First Music Video Created In The Space Sounds Really Out Of The World!

This is what people with idea do!

Canadian astronaut Chris who is the Commander of Expedition 35 of the International Space Station thought of making history before he comes back to earth after staying in space for 5 months.

He made a beautiful music video to commemorate his last hours in the space.

The weightless astronaut flying in the space sings the revised version of David Bowie's Class song "Space Oddity" - the most appropriate number for the situation. His occasional strokes on the guitar has a wonderful feel to it.

North Korea Politics On Former Basketball Player's Hands: How Will Denis Rodman Talk To Kim Jong-un And Get Kenneth Bae Released?

Photo From Reuters: Dennis Rodman hugs North Korean Leader during his last visit.
Click: Dennis Rodman Says He Will Go To North Korea, Talk To Kim Jong-un And Get Kenneth Bae Released - International Digital Times

Something that President Obama, the most powerful leader of the Western world and President Park Gyen-hye of South Korea couldn't do --might be done by a former Basketball player.

Dennis Rodman, more known in the world of NBA, basketball and in the subject of body piercing and tattoos than politics, has said that he will go to North Korea, engage into a dialogue with his "friend", the supreme leader Kim Jong-un in an effort to have the American captive released.

Kenneth Bae was apprehended when he visited the country last November with a group of tourists. He was sentenced to 15 years of hard labour for allegedly trying to overthrow the country, although in a latest news North Korea has revealed that his crime was his plot in trying to convert people into Christians.

Dennis Rodman last visited the country in March, played basketball with the leader and build friendship with the him - something Obama, Park and world leaders alike can only dream to do!

When he returned from the country (he had gone there to make a documentary on basketball, according to sources) he told that Kim Jung-un had a message for Obama. He told the leader wanted Obama to call him because he didn't really want an all-out war (although he repeatedly threatened for a war in a series of threats)

Can this flamboyant former basketball player do what Obama couldn't?

Responding to a question posed by the Korean Central News Agency, the spokesman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea (CPRK) dubbed the recent visit by the President as a "junket" that intensified tensions in Korean peninsula.

See The Airplane That Hopes To Travel Around The World Without Using A Drop Of Fuel

Image From: Solar Impulse | J. Revillard)

Can you see the big insect-like airplane flying? It is the first plane that uses no fuel at all.

Source: International Science Times:
Bertrand Piccard had once a vision of travelling around the world on hot air balloon. Although he succeeded to be the first person to do so, the balloon he was travelling in betrayed him in 1999 when he was stranded in an Egyptian desert after the fuel went low.
That was when another vision dawned in Piccard's mind - to create a plane in which he would not only travel around the world, but he would do so without using an ounce of fuel.

The App That Uses Smartphone Cameras As CCTV To Monitor Homes

Apps Turn Old Smartphones Into Security Cameras To Monitor Homes [Report] - International Digital Times

Click the above link to read the article
Written by Gopi Chandra Kharel

Opinion:

Thousands of features and apps are in themselves unnecessary as are many of the high-profile smartphones that act as "desirable" luxury that will make no difference whether you have it or not.

But as time passes, things that were once unnecessary will gradually become a need....
Image a world without a phone in today's world....but it was the same world that survived without it for billions of years.

Same is the case with these overwhelming numbers of applications coming in the market for smartphones everyday.  How useful are they. The application mentioned here could work as a way to monitor homes during one's absence, but it is developed with a pre-conceived assumption that we will have "old" phones that will act as cameras for the house--the images from which will be accessed by by the owner of the "new" phone.

Not everyone is rich enough to own more than a few digital devices, let alone the ability to enjoy the luxury of making phones their "security cameras". And i bet this wouldn't be less expensive than having traditional surveillance CCTVs.

Strict Tobacco Rules: Law Requiring Graphic Labels In Cigarette Packages Upheld As Smoking Age Limit Set To Be Raised In New York City

Tobacco industry's challenge to a 2009 federal law that makes it mandatory to have graphic warning labels on cigarette packages and puts restrictions on expanded tobacco marketing was rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court Monday.
The decision came on a day when New York City's Council announced a bill that would raise the minimum age to buy tobacco products to 21 from 18, scrutinizing U.S. citizens in terms of smoking laws.
My Opinion:
It is only a farce to regulate such laws aimed at restricting people on smoking. As I wrote in the report, there is no statistically proven data that putting up graphic warnings on cigarette packages are indeed going to limit the number of smokers. Nor is it going to impact the smokers if the age limit is raised.
If the menace associated to smoking is to be eradicated, we need a wholesome approach towards the issue, possibly a moral or spiritual awakening that spontaneously raises awareness in humans for what is wrong and bad for themselves. People will need to have an innate realization for righteousness.
